Last warning…
In the book there are a few chapters that people have expressed difficulty with. These chapters have to do with our main character, Paisley Mott, coming into possession of a series of video clips that depict the torture and murder of a child. There are six such chapters of increasingly disturbing nature. The chapters are:
46
48
50
58
67
73 (this one is really, really difficult)
If you read one of these chapters and feel it might be too much, just check below and you will find a brief one or two sentence explanation of what is shown without any of the gory detail.
Each of these chapters involve Paisley watching a video of young blonde girls with a burlap sack over their heads, that meets the serial killer’s preferred victim’s appearance, being brought in and tortured. The scenes get increasingly more graphic. Below are short descriptions of those chapters if you don’t want to read them.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Chapter 46:
The girl is tied to a workbench and shot in the head.
Chapter 48
The girl is brought in and tied to the same workbench. This time Paisley can see the hand of a figure clad in black. A knife delicately cuts away the child’s shirt, exposing her back, before stabbing her.
Chapter 50:
The child is crucified with a nail gun.
Chapter 58:
The child is hung.
Chapter 67:
The child is chained into a metal tub and drowned.
Chapter 73:
In this chapter Paisley hears a voice that she recognizes saying “Forgive me.” She also notices that the killer is not alone. The child is graphically dissected while she is alive with a carving knife. Watching this makes Paisley physically ill and she ends up throwing up in a trashcan. She also watches more videos but they are not described in detail.
